Halifax Haven Guest Home

This place is perfect. Peaceful, very clean, quiet and friendly. A Home away from home. We stayed there while under the guesthouse was under the care of Jon and Carol. They are amazing people, who volunteer to make others life's a little easier. I cannot say enough, how much we appreciate everything you do, and all the girls who volunteer to make this guest home possible. Very close to the IWK and Queen Elizabeth Hospital. This place sure is a haven, very affordable, a lovely place to stay, thanks for everything. I highly recommend staying here if you need a place close to the hospital, for patients or family of patients. The church and the people of the church who keep it going are awesome. Thanks so much! This Guest home came as such a welcome surprise. I spent ten days at the Halifax Haven this year. It is a beautiful, spotless home, being run and looked after by a volunteer couple named Shirley and Milford. They could not have been more welcoming, warm, or hospitable. My husband was undergoing a life saving major surgery and recovery at the QE 2. A very difficult time for me as well. I felt the stress and worry start to fall away the moment I stepped into the home thanks in large measure to these two kind and thoughtful people. It is a Haven. Deborah

I stayed here multiple times in 2020 when I had to get surgery and had follow-up appointments. It's run by Mennonites and IIRC they serve for a year each. The rates are very good (it was $40/night when I went there but it depends on the room), especially considering they will feed you breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They will also drive you to and from the hospital if you need it. The people I stayed with were incredibly warm and welcoming, it felt like home. You get to know the other guests as well, who are usually going through the same thing as you. Overall you couldn't ask for a better place to stay if you or a loved one is undergoing medical treatment.

My husband was in the hospital, an open heart surgery. It has been so difficult for me as a wife who went through so hard and overwhelmed. The old couple who run the Halifax Haven Guest Home, where I stayed over for a night. They are so wonderful, and warm welcome. In the house, wow, so lovely and so clean. A lady led me to the kitchen. She offered me an orange tea and surprised me with a dish of her homemade lemon flapper pie. So good! I ate all of it. That comforts me a lot. There is a cozy living room and a backyard with a large patio with beautiful plants and flowers. There are God’s Scriptures on the walls, the verses are comfort and encouragement, and God’s Love for us. Also, very interesting, they have a classic style of traditional rooms, with about five rooms (I think). I was number 5. Wow! The attic with wooden walls and the bed is so comfy and perfect. I haven't had a deep sleep for a long time since my husband's a harrowing journey from December to May. So comfortable and satisfied. In the morning, some guests stayed over like me; they were such nice people, friendly and supportive. The lady cooked breakfast for us. The breakfast served was fresh slices of apple, oranges, strawberries, grapes, yogurt, granola, and cornmeal squares with breakfast sausage in the grit gravy on the top. Soooo good!!! There were hot drinks, such as tea and coffee, and cold drinks as milk, orange juice, and water. There is an extended family table with sets of plates, silverware, and lovely decor on the table. All of us sat together and enjoyed the feast. It was so sweet and blessed. I will bring my family from the West to that place. Honest with you all, it's the best hospitality I ever had. We were so grateful to find this lovely home! When our son’s hospital stay was extended, it was the perfect place to lay our heads.
